Curious about your first tattoo or ready to book? :)

This page is dedicated to answering first-time tattoo specific questions you may be wondering!

These have to do with the actual tattoo appointment itself and what to expect.

Feel free to message about anything further that you’d like to know, and I would be happy to provide an answer by email or consultation.

Here’s some quick information about getting a first tattoo:

You need to be well fed for your tattoo

  • You use a lot of energy getting tattooed and an empty stomach can make the process more difficult. Having a big meal before helps to keep you feeling good throughout the entire appointment. Bring snacks and a sugary drink like juice with you for during and after the tattoo.

You will need to hold still for an extended period of time to the best of your ability.

  • Often clients tell me holding their body/body part in the same position is more bothersome than actually getting the tattoo. Of course, breaks are always welcome and encouraged to stretch your body and pace the tattoo accordingly.

Changing the placement of the tattoo is never a problem!

  • Stencils are very easy to print and can be used multiple times. It doesn’t inconvenience or bother me at all to make adjustments, move the stencil slightly up or down or rotated. I encourage all my clients to advocate for themselves during the stencil process to ensure they feel fully satisfied with how the stencil lands on the body.

Your clothing should be able to be rolled or taped out of the way

  • What you wear to the tattoo needs to be able to allow 4 inches of space between your clothes and your tattoo spot. Clothing that can fall down onto the tattoo or can’t be taped away during the process is to be avoided.

I will be letting you know what I’m doing as I’m doing it

  • For first time tattoo-getters I strive to vocalize the steps I’m taking during the stencilling process, such as wiping, shaving, applying the stencil, so that you are aware of what is happening to you, rather than being poked and prodded without being informed. I find it helps to ease the possible nerves of a first tattoo to chat as we work as well ^_^

I will let you know when I’m going to start the tattoo

  • Every tattoo I do begins with a verbal warning that I am about to begin, whether it’s a first tattoo or not. I do a small “tester” line to start so that you have a chance to feel the sensation before launching into the whole piece. Usually clients are pleasantly surprised to feel how it feels to get a tattoo!
